Mr. L. E. Hammond's Obituary
L.E. Hammond, age 87 and a resident of Talladega, AL, passed away Thursday night Feb. 19, 2015 peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones.
Mr. Hammond was born on Jan. 28, 1928 in Albertville, AL. He was married to the late Nacelyn Hammond, and they had one child, the late Allen T. Hammond. He was the loving bread man of the Talladega community for over 35 years. He also served as a security guard at Talladega Super Speedway for many years. He loved farming and old tractors, as well as his cattle. Mr. Hammond was a veteran of the US Navy and served during WWII, and also served on the City Council of Talladega.
He is survived by his four grandchildren: Misty L. Vix of Talladega, Heather Ashbaugh of Coco, FL, Paige Waldrop of Talladega, AL, and Ryan Hammond of Sylacauga, AL; and by his six great grandchildren: Blake Ashbaugh, Candice Ashbaugh, Hunter Ashbaugh, Logan Ashbough, Conner Vix, and Noah Waldrop. He was also known by many close kids as just Grandpa.
Funeral Services for Mr. Hammond will be Monday, February 23, 2015 at 10 AM at Trinity Methodist Church in Talladega with Bro. Mike Irons officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4 to 7 PM at Talladega Funeral Home. Mr. Hammond was an active member of Trinity Methodist Church. As he is called home, we reflect upon Rev. 21:4: “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
