My sympathy to the family. I hope you find comfort in knowing God to misses people that have died(Job 14:13-15). Almighty God promises to end all suffering, including death(Rev.21:4). And best of all, God promises to resurrect the dead(Isa.26:19). I sure hope this is comforting to your famiy.
