Thurby Francis Lowery's Obituary
Thurby Francis Lowery went to join his Lord on December 22, 2016. He was born on May 9, 1914, to George and Lucy Lowery. He was the youngest of 8 kids and grew up in Ashland, AL. Forever a prankster and joker, but always a hard worker, Thurby enjoyed many jobs in his life. He worked in a mill, recapped tires, did construction, and some mechanic work. During school, he met the love of his life, Robbie Moore, pursued he, married her, and later moved to Talladega. Soon he discovered his real passion at the Industries for the Blind where he became a teacher for 30 years, training the deaf and blind to manufacture textile goods safely and live a normal life. He often bragged about how much productivity he could get out of “those kids” and took great pride in their accomplishments. Anyone close to Mr. Lowery knew of his love for his Lord. Every evening he could be heard praying for all close to him, fervently interceding for his family and friends he loved. He always took an opportunity to tell of Jesus’ love and how love should be our main focus in life. Mr. Lowery believed in doing for others more than himself and was constantly working late hours to help anyone who needed it. His beloved Robbie passed away in 1989. A few years later, he went to live with their daughter, Janice, in Florida to help her raise his grandsons and granddaughters. His wisdom, love, and red wagon pulling abilities made him a beloved father and granddaddy. He is survived by his daughter, Janice Miles, grandsons, Matthew (Stacy) Miles, and David Miles, great-granddaughters Kayla (Jon) McIntosh & Rebekah Miles, great-great grandchildren Luke and Emmalyn McIntosh, and special family friend Brenda Trawick. A visitation will be held Thursday, December 29, 2016, at 9am at Talladega Funeral Home with a graveside service at Midway Memory Gardens at 11am. Talladega Funeral Home will be directing the service.
