Mr. Thomas Gould Newsome's Obituary
Talladega-Graveside services for Mr. Thomas Gould Newsome will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 1:00pm at Lanier Cemetery with Rev. David Gaither officiating. Tommie Lee Wells, Mike Moxley, Johnny Trammell, Chris Newsome, Steve Martin, and Harvey Hanner will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be at Talladega Funeral Home in the chapel prior to the graveside from 11:00am-12:00noon. Thomas is preceded in death by his parents: William Gould and Jessie Mae Hall Newsome. 3 sisters: Ella Mae White and her husband Charles; Mary Elizabeth Royal and her husband Clarence; Katherine Moxley and her husband DF; 3 brothers: William Edward Newsome and his wife Betty; Luther Gilbert Newsome and his wife Betty Ann; and Billy Frank Newsome. He is survived by several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was a member of Trinity Methodist Church and also attended New Hope Baptist Church. Thomas graduated from Lincoln High School in 1955. Graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1958 with a BS in Elementary Education and earned a Masters in Education in 1967 from the University of Alabama. He taught English at Winterboro High School and later became the schools guidance counselor. He retired as the Director of Special Education of Talladega County. He was an avid reader, took great pride in his flower garden, and loved to travel. Talladega Funeral Home will direct the service.
