Mrs. Sue Ellen Scaife's Obituary
Talladega-Mrs. Sue Ellen Scaife passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026, from Alzheimer’s disease. She was born to Andy and Doris Chatham on April 12, 1962. She spent most of her life in Ajo, Arizona and Boulder City, Nevada before marrying her husband Christopher Scaife on June 20, 1987. The family lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, Newport News, Virginia and Talladega, Alabama. Sue was a homemaker for many years and later obtained a degree in Fine Arts from Talladega College. She was an avid artist, and she also enjoyed gardening and travel. She travelled to China twice as a missionary. She enjoyed being a member of Hepzibah Baptist Church. Sue was preceded in death by both parents. She is survived by her husband Christopher, sons: Zachary Vining, Christopher Scaife, Davey Mehlhoff, Andrew Scaife and her daughter: Cortney Kangas. Sue leaves behind her grandsons: Elijah Kangas, Levi and Henry Scaife, Fox and Fen Vining, Alexander Scaife, Isaac Scaife, Abram Mehlhoff, and Evan and Seth Tozer. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter: Brianna Scaife. She is also survived by her brother: Gary Chatham of Tucson, Arizona and his family. Funeral Services will be held at Hepzibah Baptist Church at 11:00am on March 31, 2026, with Rev. Chuck Oliver officiating. Visitation with the family will be attended prior to the service at 10:30am. Interment will immediately follow at Hepzibah Baptist Church Cemetery with Davey Mehlhoff, Elijah Kangas, Levi Scaife, Fox Vining, Zac Vining, and Chris Scaife serving as pallbearers. The family would like to thank the care team at Cleburne County Nursing Home in Heflin, Alabama for their wonderful care and abundant love during the last year of her life. Cosby Funeral Home will direct the service.
