Ms. Sandra J. Birchfield Gortney's Obituary
Funeral Services for Ms. Sandra J. Birchfield Gortney, 53 of Munford, will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 2 PM at Central Baptist Church in Talladega with Pastor Marc Curlee officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem UMC Cemetery in Munford. Friends are welcome to begin arriving at the church at 12 PM Tuesday. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6 to 8 PM at Talladega Funeral Home.
Ms. Gortney passed away Saturday afternoon at her residence.
Ms. Gortney was born on December 9, 1962 in Clay County to Paul and Jeanette Birchfield. She went on to graduate from Talladega High School with the Class of 1981. She was a valued employee of Walmart in Oxford for over 8 years. Ms. Gortney, a lifelong resident of Talladega County, was a member of Central Baptist Church in Talladega. She was a loving mother and grandmother, so full of life and lived every day to its fullest potential. She will be dearly missed by all those she leaves behind.
She is preceded in death by her husband Pete Gortney, her mother Jeanette Birchfield, and her nephew Dustin Henry.
She leaves behind her father Paul Birchfield and his wife Shirley; her children: Chris Gortney and wife Tiffany, April Sirmans and husband Zach, and Daniel Gortney; her grandchildren: Colby, Braxton and Rylan Gortney, and Jacob, Megan, and Gracie Sirmans; her brother: Scott Birchfield; her sisters: Sarah Johnson and Lynn Tinney and husband Steve; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Johnson, Sean Johnson, Ronald Gortney, Chad Gortney, Justin Gortney, and Jason Ordeneaux. The family would also like to recognize the THS class of 1981 and associates of Oxford Walmart as honorary pallbearers.
