Mr. Larry Wayne Thompson II's Obituary
Talladega-Larry Wayne Thompson II, age 54, of Talladega, Alabama, made his peaceful transition into heaven on June 30, 2026. After a long battle with liver failure, he has been released from his struggle and brought into perfect peace by his Lord and Savior.
Larry was born on September 9, 1971, and was a beloved son to his mother, Nancy Thompson. He grew up with a curious and brilliant mind, standing up to adversity, and working hard for the things he wanted in life. He graduated as a valedictorian of the class of 1989 at Talladega High School. He worked hard for his presidential scholarship and degree in electrical engineering from University of Alabama in 1994.
A faithful follower of Christ, Larry had a profound love for studying the Bible and theology, a passion he proudly passed down to his family. He lived life with a joyful, adventurous spirit. Traveling to new cities, spreading his love for Jesus, the Alabama Crimson Tide, and his family. Above all, he was a fiercely committed father, grandfather, and uncle, who served as his children’s biggest supporter throughout their lives.
Larry is survived by his loving children: Joshua Thompson (Ashley); Amber Gatlin (Hunter); and Laney Thompson. He was a proud grandfather ‘Papa G’ to Knox, Easton, Beaux, Hannah, and Mac. He is also survived by his devoted mother Nancy Thompson; and his siblings, Wanda Thompson, Anthony Thompson (Amanda); and Donna Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Thompson; his baby sister Rhonda Thompson; and his nephew Daniel Davenport.
Joshua, Amber, and Laney wish to express their deepest gratitude to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and medical staff at UAB St. Vincents for their compassionate care and support.
A funeral service to honor Larry’s life, faith, and legacy will be held at Cragdale Baptist Church on July 7, 2026, at 2pm. Located at 2149 Berney Station Road, Talladega, Alabama. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Midway Memory Gardens with Joshua Thompson, Hunter Gatlin, Grant Thompson, Spencer Thompson, Anthony Thompson and Kyle Ponder serving as pallbearers.
