Mrs. Anne Henley Merkl's Obituary
Bartlett, TN-Mrs. Anne H. Merkl, born of Talladega, Alabama on September 1, 1937, was sent to her eternal home on February 13, 2025. Anne attended Talladega High School, and thereafter The University of Alabama. Anne lived everyday full of life and happiness. She lived a life devoted to her family, children, grandchildren, and pets, always ensuring other's needs were met before her own. She was selfless, loving and kind to everyone she encountered, stranger or not.
Throughout her life, Anne shared a love for political involvement and policy reform. She was elected to represent the state of Georgia as chairwoman for the Reform Party of the United States of America in 2000. She loved to host reform events in her home and attend events across the nation, including spending time at Mar-A-Lago during her time in office.
Aside from political travel, Anne enjoyed spending time in Panama City Beach as well as the Caribbean and abroad in Ireland. Anne was a huge fan of Gone With the Wind and Elvis Presley, so much so her own home which was almost a direct replica of the Gone with the Wind and Presley residences. Anne loved her home in Newnan, Georgia and spent the majority of her life there until she made the decision in her later years to live with her youngest son, Monte Merkl, in Bartlett, Tennessee. We all do and will continue to miss her dearly in her passing and cherish the time and memories shared together. Until we meet again. We love you always.
Mrs. Merkl is preceded in death by her husband: Colonel Eldred Donald Merkl; 2 sons: Dennis Dirk Merkl, Victor Kent Merkl; father: Winford Carl Henley; mother: Lura Lavenia Sailors; 2 sisters: Dorothy Coley, Ellen Kearns. She is survived by her son: Monte Dean Merkl; 2 grandsons: Dirk Andrew Merkl, Brenton Scott Merkl; granddaughter: Breanna Grace Merkl.
