Mr. Allen "Red" Strickland's Obituary
Spartanburg, SC-Allen “Red” Strickland, 83, passed into eternity on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. Born September 5, 1937, in Talladega, AL, Allen was a son of the late John Thomas and Mattie Lou Hester Strickland. He joins his siblings, Charles Strickland, Patricia Hurst, and Sue Strickland, in the ever after. Allen enlisted with the US Air Force after high school and was posted at Niagra Falls Air Force base. While serving there he met Sue Cable, whom he married in 1959. Allen is survived by his sons, Tim Strickland and his wife, Toni, and Craig Strickland and his wife, Alisha. Gregory Strickland, his middle son, passed away a day after his birth. He is also predeceased by a grandson, Taylor Allen Strickland, son of Tim and Toni. Allen is survived by a grandson, Craig Allen Strickland, Jr. After many years of living in N.C. Allen relocated to Spartanburg, SC in 1999 where he lived out his remaining days with the love of his life, Katie Allen. They enjoyed a great community of friendship and “shagging” and were members of the Upstate Shag Club and R&B Shag Club. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 2:00PM at Hepzibah Baptist Church Cemetery for Graveside Rites. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Taylor Strickland Legacy Foundation, TaylorStricklandLegacy.org (http://taylorstricklandlegacy.org/) Talladega Funeral Home will direct the graveside service.
